Types of curtain wall facade systems

Curtain Wall Face Cap View

Curtain wall facade face cap After installing the vertical and horizontal lamellas, the curtain wall facade glass is placed in the space between these lamellas. Then, using a material called a cap and a hidden connection with the nose of the glass lamella, they are fixed in place.

The caps used in the curtain wall face cap facade have different shapes (round, spindle, rectangular) and can be applied with different lengths and depths. However, the width of these caps does not exceed 5 cm. It is clear that the material of these caps is 6063 series aluminum and their color can be selected based on the architectural design.

In short, in the curtain wall facade of the Facecap system, elements of 5 cm width and desired depth are seen around each facade module, which gives a special beauty to the facade.

Frameless curtain wall facade

In the frameless curtain wall facade, unlike the face cap system, there is no cap on the external surface of the facade. In this system, special structural adhesives are used to fix the glass in the space between the lamellas. In this way, after the facade is modularized with the lamellas, the glass is placed back in the aluminum coil and then fixed in the space between the lamellas.

The result is a relatively uniform outer surface of glass. The empty space between each module does not exceed 2 cm and is generally filled with adhesive or EPDM rubber. In this system, like other curtain wall facade systems, it is possible to install hidden openings. Most other curtain wall facade systems can be considered a sub-branch of these two systems.

Semi Frameless Curtain Wall System Facade

In this system, depending on the architectural design, a cap can be used in one of the horizontal or vertical directions and rubber or adhesive can be used in the other direction to fix the glass. In fact, this curtain wall system is a unique combination of a frameless curtain wall and a face cap curtain wall, which gives a very different look to the exterior of the building.

Curtain Wall U Channel View

U-channel curtain wall facades can be considered a sub-branch of frameless or full frameless facades, with the difference that in this system there is no longer an aluminum coil around the glass. In this system, special glass spacers and small aluminum pieces are used that are connected to the lamella at specific intervals.

By placing these pieces in a puzzle-like shape in the empty space inside the spacer, as well as using Structure adhesive, we can achieve a look similar to a frameless and lei look at a lower cost. The U-Channel curtain wall look is not recommended for buildings over 20 meters high.
